I have started to included some short stories about the more memorable nights. I have a few journals I have been going through and I did manage to occasionally write about bands I saw and the night in general. One day I will try to sort this out chronologically. I have a lot of the ticket stubs too and have added quite a bit in my picture section. Sadly, sometimes I don't have the dates if I don't have the ticket stubs still, but I am finding some info on the internet. And sometimes, I didn't write if it was the old or new peppermint lounge. I have a long way to go with this so excuse the typos and duplications.

Afrika Bambatta and the Soulsonic Force – The old Peppermint Lounge, NYC - Even a die hard punk rocker as I was at the time could not be more impressed than I was by this band. It made a lot of sense to me a few years later when Johhny Lydon teamed up with Mr. Bambatta in Timezone for World Destruction

Alien Sex Fiend – Danceteria 3/24/84 Someone was filming a documentary on the Batcave scene and I would have been in it. Has anyone seen it?
APB – The Ritz, NYC, Metro Bongo a GoGo, Staten Island, NY

The B52s – Beacon Theatre, NYC, Paramount Theatre, Staten Island - The Beacon Theatre – I went there on a date with the 1978 homecoming queen of New Dorp H.S. afterwards we beat it back to Staten Island to catch Blotto "I Want to Be a Lifeguard" at the Paramount Theatre on Staten Island. I thought it was a date but apparently she didn't think it was much of one. She was a disco queen anyway and I don't think she knew what was going on.

Blotto – the Paramount, Staten Island, NY
The Boyfriends (not the current band) – The Factory, Staten Island, NY
Buzz and the Flyers – Bond's, NYC
The Rockats – the Ritz, Peppermint Lounge, NYC, the Paramount Theatre, Staten Island, NY – The Rockats convinced me I wanted to go "rockabilly", for a while anyway.

The Chesterfield Kings – Jerusalem, Staten Island, NY Feb? 1983
BMT – the Peppermint Lounge, NYC

The Clash – Bonds, NYC, 5-31-81 date unconfirmed. I do know Buzz and the Flyers played the night I saw them.
The Cult – The Ritz, NYC June 2, 1987 – They were supposed to play the Felt Forum in MSG but the gig got cancelled due to asbestos. There was a word of mouth announcement that they would play the Ritz and play they did! - utterly amazing. Despite them playing in support of the more more flowery/metally stuff from Electric (which I do like but not as much as earlier stuff), they played enough of the older songs and I will tell you that whole Ritz (now Webster Hall) felt like it was going to collapse Thanks Andy!

Siouxsie & the Banshees – The old Peppermint Lounge, NYC 11-13 or 11-14-81? Story – The place was sold out and an absolute madhouse. The New York City Fire (FDNY) department came in and said there would be no show. About half the people left. The remaining hopeful lagged behind and the show went on with Lydia Lunch opening and Siouxsie following. I was fortunate to be right at the stage. There was a drunk jerk to my left who kept harassing Sioux, pawing her whenever she came near. Finally, she took the mic stand and bashed him hard in the head with the base. Talk about instant karma. Today, she probably would be facing charges but I will swear he absolutely got what he deserved.

Lydia Lunch – The old Peppermint Lounge, NYC

Johnny Thunders – The old Peppermint Lounge I think it was 82 as the clash were playing at Bond's in NYC on the Sandinista tour. Johnny got busted for possession in California and didn't have money for bail. There was a word of mouth announcement that there would be a benefit to raise bail for him at the old Peppermint Lounge. I may have heard it on WNYU FM. As I was a big JT fan, Chinese Rocks being the first complete song I ever learned on guitar, I went. I was second on line behind this beautiful young girl. We got to be chatty and I hung with her for most of the night. She knew everyone. I only wish I knew who she was. It was an amazing night. I can only begin to tell you who was hanging out but among some that I was standing around talking to were Billy Idol, most of the Clash, Neon Leon, Steven Tyler, Richard Hell, most of the Heartbreakers and if David Johannsen had show all of the former NY Dolls would have been there.
Polyrock – The new Peppermint Lounge, NYC
The Professionals (ex Sex Pistols) – The new Peppermint Lounge, NYC

Killing Joke – The Zentih, Paris Dec. 3, 1986 with
The Lords of the New Church – The new Peppermint Lounge, The Zenith, Paris Dec. 3, 1986 *
* verbatim from my journal "live for today, open your eyes, Russian roulette, dance with me, new church, method to my madness, the last time – (rolling stones cover). Just in from the concert at 12:20. The Lords were pretty good but Stiv forgot a few lines here and there. The sound system sounded like it had a few cracked speakers. Met Mirabella and Christelle, two lycee students both 17. They spoke English pretty well. Mirabella's boyfriend is a DJ at La Gibus. Tried to protect them from the slamdancers. Punched one guy in the face and got away with it. Left halfway through Killing Joke's set though I heard Life Like Blood and Kings and Queens the only songs I knew (that they played). " I didn't say it in the journal but the only reason we left was that they did not sound good.

Bow Wow Wow – The Paramount Theatre, Staten Island. Feb 12, 1983. I swear Kate Bush was there and standing next to me.

Nirvana – JC Dobbs, Philly I did not mean to see Nirvana but JC Dobbs was one of my locals when I lived in Philly - right before Nevermind came out. God forbid anyone speak out against them (or that night) but they stunk and although they are not my cup of tea, I do think they were to become of the more influential and talented bands of our times. I am certain that after the show, they sold their souls and hence their future success.

INXS – The Paradiso, Amsterdamm (story) Feb 10-88? Michael Hutchence was drinking beer on stage. He had a six pack of Grolsch cans. He started throwing the remaining ones into the audience. (David Johansen, Scandal, Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, John Waite)(R.I.P.) is playing with Ivan Kral (Patty Smith, Iggy Pop, John Waite) . Got a free album out of the deal. .. Not too much I can find on the band so it's a little bit of missing music history.

Executive Slacks – Revival, Philadelphia – The singer Ethan Marsoulis (Farenheit 451, Spahn Ranch) was a great guy to hang around with though my friend Kevin Borden (Farenheit 451, the Rockaways) begs to differ. I nearly shit when I saw his brother Constantine was on American Idol. I never watched the show but wish I had seen him on it now.
The Bongos – The Old Peppermint Lounge, NYC – I was there the last night it was open. The Paramount Theatre, Staten Island

The Waterboys – El Dorado, Paris, Dec, 19, 1985 – I had heard that Marco Sin from Dirty Looks was touring with the band as the bassist. I dragged my brother Mike who was studying in Paris at the time to the show. The band was great but Marco was a no show. They dedicated "All the things She Gave Me" to him. We were told he had a heart attack and was in the hospital in Brest. Later we found out it was a cocaine overdose. C'est la vie!. Marco was a great guy. He passed away much too young on October 19, 1995 at the age of 42 after seeming to have turned his life around.

The Thrashing Doves – The Rex Club, Paris Dec 6, 1985
NIN – The Meadowlands, New Jersey Sept 27, 1995
David Bowie – Madison Square Garden, NYC July 27, 1983, the Meadowlands, New Jersey Sept 27 1995 was a big disappointment when he toured with NIN and was trying to hop on the goth/industrial thing. He was like a fish out of water. And as a big fan of his, it hurts to say it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

China Club – I can't remember who was playing but hanging out at one table was OJ Simpson (before all the madness), Eddie Murphy and Richard Belzer.
Hanging with Joni Jensen, a FIT student, she brought me into Jayne County's apartment and also the guys from Bad Brains both who lived in the East Village. I think Jayne was on St. Mark's across from Trash & Vaudville.
I also prowled some cool afterhours clubs like Berlin and Save the Robot in Manhattan and Jerusalem on Staten Island. And later on, Revival in Philly.
Still many more to come.

Bands I wish I had seen

Of course most of the punk bands of my youth especially the Sex Pistols.
Psychedelic Furs
The Smiths
Morrissey – I had tickets for the Beacon Theatre in NYC but he cancelled the show. Still have the tickets though for April 11, 1994.
The Sound – probably the band I regret missing the most.

Bauhaus
Joy Division
New Order
The Cramps
The Gun Club
The Human League
